What is Cub Scouting?

Since 1930, Cub Scouting has been weaving lifetime values into fun and educational activities designed to help parents teach their sons how to make good decisions throughout their lives and give them confidence as they become the adult leaders of tomorrow.

In a society where your son is often taught that winning is everything, Cub Scouting teaches him to do his best while being respectful and helpful to others.

Cub Scouts is a year-round family program designed for boys who are in the first through fifth grades (or 7, 8, 9, and 10 years of age). Boys can enter Cub Scouts at any rank, strictly according to age/grade. It is not necessary to complete the prior ranks first.

Each rank is attained after completing the requirements listed in their scout books, and are gradually more difficult and challenging.  All boys above the Tiger Cub level must complete the requirements for Bobcat before beginning their rank requirements. The Bobcat badge consists of eight achievements that include basic cub scout information: motto, promise, law of the pack, salute, handshake, sign, etc.

Parents, leaders, and organizations work together to achieve the ten purposes of Cub Scouting:

(1)   Character Development
(2)   Spiritual Growth
(3)   Good Citizenship
(4)   Sportsmanship and Fitness
(5)   Family Understanding
(6)   Respectful Relationships
(7)   Personal Achievement
(8)   Friendly Service
(9)   Fun and Adventure
(10)  Preparation for Boy Scouts

Cub Scouting members join a Cub Scout pack and are assigned to a den, usually a neighborhood group of six to nine boys - for details about dens, please refer to the information to the right by rank, grade and age.  Once a month, all of the dens and family members gather for a pack meeting under the direction of a Cubmaster and pack committee. The committee includes parents of boys in the pack and members of the chartered organization.

Pack 97 has been serving the Folsom community since 1958 and we look forward to each year full of adventure and learning which include some of our annual events: Pinewood Derby, Raingutter Regatta, Space Derby, family campouts/campfires, and parades.
